I don't see the file being updated in FTP and the generation wheel keeps spinning for.. well.. hours.. any pointers? Thanks!

I am trying the free version and it appears that the xml updater is not working. I don't see the file being updated in FTP and the generation wheel keeps spinning for.. well.. hours.. any pointers?
It works well with the Free version on our test site. Please provide details about the issue you're facing, such as screenshots, so that we can better assist you.

In the first screenshots you see that the wheel next to 'regerenate sitemaps' is turning and it keeps turning for eternity. The other screenshot is of the FTP folder with the last changed date some time ago, although I tried to regen the files almost on a daily basis since then. FIle permissions for the wpms-sitemap are at 775.
